Six second division teams travelled to the qualification summit off Glücksburg to defend their second division status against 52 newcomers and to sail in the 2nd Bundesliga again next year. However, only two of them managed to stay in class on this super regatta weekend with a total of 58 club teams. Segel-Club Ville and Seglervereinigung 1903 Berlin will remain in the league in 2016. The four other previous second division teams - Duisburger Segel-Club, Segel-Club Münster, Yachtclub Strelasund and Yacht-Club Langenargen from Lake Constance - will be relegated and will have to take a one-year break and try their luck again at the next qualification summit.
The qualifying regatta was won by the Schaumburg-Lippische Seglerverein. Niels Hentschel said: "Our goal was to finish no race worse than third place. The fact that we have now achieved overall victory in Glücksburg is amazing. It was a crew performance that put us in the 2nd division. It was a great event. We are delighted." Along with the winners and the two old and new second division teams, Duisburger Yacht-Club, Schlei-Segel-Club and Seglergemeinschaft Lohheider See also sailed their way into the 2nd Bundesliga.
The Flensburger Segel-Club and the Deutsche Hochseesportverband Hansa with their many volunteers offered the 232 sailors a thrilling long sailing weekend. They sailed on J 70 and Bavaria B/one OneDesigns. The complete line-up for the 1st and 2nd Bundesliga will only be determined on the evening of 1 November, after the last regatta of the 1st league on the Hamburg Outer Alster (29 to 31 October) and the relegation to the 1st Bundesliga (1 November) have been completed. So there is still just under a month of excitement left in the third season of the young German Sailing League.
